At the beginning of 2015 Boyfriend and I said that we should go to Mauritius. We did… just not together. (work is a many splendour thing and all that)
After the success of ‘Pad na jou Hart’, movie sweethearts Donnalee Roberts and Ivan Botha did research and found that Mauritius is still considered THE honeymoon destination. They then decided that Mauritius was the perfect setting for their new movie ‘Vir Altyd’. Due to SARIE magazine partnering with the movie ‘Vir Altyd’, BRAVO! was invited to join in on the fun and September saw me packing my bags to head to the beautiful, warm island of Mauritius.
SARIE magazine shot the cover of their magazine with Donnalee Roberts and I was afforded the opportunity of an interview with both Donnalee and Ivan Botha. We visited the different locations where they shot their movie. One of it being the lovely Belle Mare ruins, which provided the best backdrop for any picture, every time.
We also got to spend time with Cabous van der Westhuizen, he was a Springbok rugby player in the 1990’s. He has been living in Mauritius just over 8 years and has a lovely beach bar. This beach bar is exactly what we see in the movies: On the beach, everyone strolls in casually, everyone talks to each other, he knows all the patrons, etc. Apologies for the cliché, but he is living the dream!
Mauritius is more beautiful than words can describe! At one stage we were concerned that the viewers would think we had photoshopped every interview and shoot because everything just looked so perfect.
I wish we’d had more time, but this is definitely a place I’d love to visit again someday.
